Airservices detected a data fault in our digital tower technology system this morning. We have identified the defect and the system has been reset.
We will be closely monitoring the system throughout the afternoon to ensure it continues to operate normally.
Safety is our number one priority. As a safety precaution, all traffic into and out of Melbourne was slowed down this morning to ensure it was appropriately managed.
The technical issue was isolated to our control tower at Melbourne Airport. Our main en route centres, terminal control units and other towers were not directly impacted.
Staff in our National Operations Centre in Canberra are working closely with airlines to assist them return to their normal schedules as soon as possible.
We are aware of the inconvenience that this may have caused and thank the travelling public for their patience.
