Technical fault at Airservices Brisbane Centre (update)

28 May 2014

A number of aircraft were delayed earlier this afternoon due to a technical fault in our main air traffic control centre in Brisbane.

The fault has been rectified.

Safety is our number one priority and as a result of the fault, we took a number of measures to ensure the continued safety of the travelling public.

Aircraft departing Brisbane Airport to the north and west were delayed by approximately 15-20 minutes while departures from Sydney Airport heading north saw delays of about 10 minutes.

There were some minor delays for aircraft heading to Brisbane from regional Queensland airports (Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton and Mackay).

Arrivals into Brisbane Airport were slowed down, meaning that controllers put further spacing between departing aircraft to safely sequence traffic. Operations are returning to normal although some flow-on delays in this evening’s peak are expected.

We thank the travelling public for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience.
