Gold Coast ILS approval

25 Jan 2016

Today the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Hon. Warren Truss MP, approved the installation of an instrument landing system (ILS) at Gold Coast Airport.

Airservices will now commence a detailed body of work which includes procurement processes and the completion of final design work.

Airservices is committed to working closely with industry and the community to reduce the impacts of aircraft noise. As part of our operations we regularly conduct noise monitoring and reporting as part of ongoing community consultation and engagement with the Aircraft Noise Ombudsman.

Airservices will make every effort to minimise the use of the ILS while ensuring the safe operations of aircraft. We will also work in collaboration with Gold Coast Airport and industry on the development of Noise Abatement Procedures which prioritise the use of Required Navigational Performance (RNP) and other existing approach procedures.

The ILS is expected to become operational in 2017.
