Strong winds affecting air traffic operations in Sydney

16-10-2010 -

Strong westerly winds gusting up to 40 knots (75km.hr) are currently affecting air traffic control operations in Sydney.

The winds are restricting aircraft arrivals and departures to the east west runway (Runway 25) only.

Residents to the east and west of the airport may notice more aircraft noise than usual as all take-offs and landings are using this runway only.

The strong winds are predicted to continue for most of the day and will cause some delays for air travellers.  The winds are expected to ease later this afternoon.

Flights arriving and departing from other airports may also experience some disruption due to flow-on effects within the national air traffic network.

Passengers are advised to contact their airline for up-to-date flight information.

Airservices National Operations Centre is monitoring the situation and will work with all our industry partners nationally to manage any disruptions.
