Airservices to help next generation of pilots

17 Mar 2014

Airservices will continue to support education for the next generation of pilots through a new three year sponsorship agreement with Recreational Aviation Australia (RA-Aus).

The sponsorship will help fund 10 RA-Aus scholarships per year to assist with flight training of young recreational aviation candidates.

The Airservices sponsorship, valued at $75,000, follows an earlier similar agreement with RA-Aus that expired in December 2013.

Airservices Acting Executive General Manager Corporate and Industry Affairs, Elissa Keenan said, “We’re again excited to support an association like RA-Aus as they continue to work to promote the aviation industry.”

Airservices and RA-Aus Giving Young Flyers Training Support (GYFTS) scholarships will offer training opportunities for young people and assist them to complete their flying training at a minimal cost.

“We’re proud to support the great work RA-Aus do to offer young people the opportunity to develop basic aviation knowledge that could potentially lead to a career in recreational, military or general commercial aviation.”

The Airservices sponsorship will allow RA-Aus to provide each successful student with $2500 to subside the cost of flight training with an instructor.

“We hope that through these scholarships, young people will be encouraged to pursue a career in aviation and in turn will help facilitate the growth that is occurring within the aviation industry.”

The scholarships are available to both male and female students who are 15-20 years old.

Applicants must demonstrate an aptitude for flying, a commitment to aviation, and financial need.
