Airservices preparations for Santa’s visit to Australia on December 24—one of the busiest nights of the year for air traffic controllers—are well underway.
In the lead-up to Christmas, Airservices has been working closely with Santa and his elves to ensure safe and efficient passage for his sleigh and reindeer across the nation’s skies.
This week Santa visited Airservices staff in a control tower and aviation and rescue fire fighting facility on a ‘test flight’ to Australia to ensure everything was ready for the big night.
High resolution photographs and high quality footage of the visit is available on request.
Airservices has also allocated Santa his 2013 call sign—‘SLEIGH RIDER 1’—to communicate with air traffic control on Christmas Eve.
More video footage of Santa lodging his flight plan with Airservices will be available from Thursday 19 December and the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) will be available from Friday 20 December.
Footage of Santa’s flight path across Australia will be available on request from Monday 23 December.
Broadcast quality audio grabs of Santa speaking with local controllers in Adelaide, Albury, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth, Rockhampton and Sydney in-flight on Christmas Eve will be available from Airservices newsroom from December 25.
