28 May 2014

Townsville Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) ‘Red Crew’ has shown they are true heroes by donating $5000 in prize money to Ronald McDonald House North Queensland.

The Red Crew, based at Townsville Airport, was named Airservices Australia’s Crew of the Year this month for their professionalism, initiative, team work and community involvement.

Ronald McDonald House North Queensland was established in 2004 and in that time has provided support and assistance to over 1700 people.

In addition to accommodation, the house provides recreational activities, family dinner nights a learning program and respite through the Ronald McDonald Family Retreats.

Townsville ARFF, Fire Station Manager, Garry Browning said the crew was pleased to be able to donate its prize money to a community focused organisation.

“Inherent in our role as rescue fire fighters is helping those in need, and the crew is proud to be able to contribute in such a positive way to assist ill children and their families.”
